LOWLANDS

This region covers an area between the Borders, which is the border with England to the south and in the north to a line level with the cities of Glasgow, Stirling, Perth and Dundee. In earlier times, there were 200 licensed distilleries in the area. Many distillers then produced in so-called Coffey stills, a continuous combustion process, for the emerging Blend industry. Today there are only four active single malt distilleries which produce a style of mainly light, delicate, grassy and citrus accented malt. Auchentoshan burns to generally three times, which makes the malt even lighter and milder. All whiskys in the Lowlands are therefore well suited for entry.
