SPEYSIDE

The Speyside region is geographically part of the Highlands, but rightly takes a special position. The Speyside Distillery has the highest density per square mile. Overall, around 40 distilleries abound in the area around the beautiful Salmon River Spey, situated in the triangle of the little town Forres, Elgin and Buckie. Among other things, the good and always plenty of water available and the great expansion of railway lines provided excellent opportunities. The first legalized distillery was "Glenlivet" (now The Glenlivet "), the owner would have been prepared against the abundant moonshiners to defend it even at gunpoint. Besides many distilleries in part to the famous" lay Malt Whisky Trail "is also the "Speyside Cooperage" in Craigellachie, which repaired visible whisky barrels for visitors and prepared for the next use.
